Enviros managed the New Technologies Supporter Programme on behalf of Defra:-
THE PROGRAMME
The Supporter Programme ran for three years and provided impartial information, advice and training to local authorities and their stakeholders to help them plan their strategies to achieve their BMW diversion targets. The support covered in-vessel composting, AD, MBT, gasification & pyrolysis, autoclaving and other new technologies for BMW diversion and takes the form of:
- Responses to queries received via an email/telephone helpline
- Face to face meetings
- Briefings for elected members and other non-technical staff
- Visits to Defra's Demonstration Facilities and other operational plant in the UK
- Case studies
- Best practice guides
- Residential training
Up to 2 days of direct consultancy support were provided per local authority in England.
A useful overview report summarising the technologies (useful for non-tech staff and in strategy/BPEO briefings) can be downloaded from http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/waste/wip/newtech/index.htm .
Please also note detailed information on specific technologies is available at the Waste DataCentre http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/wtd/ .
